On 26 February 2024, after fuel prices rose, the Minister of Trade signed the order raising urban taxi fares. These are maximum fares: below them, prices are still agreed between driver and passenger.
Maximum urban taxi fares
| Trip | Day | Night (from 10 pm) |
|---|---|---|
| Shared ride (“course”) | 350 FCFA | 400 FCFA |
| Private drop (“dépôt”) | 3,000 FCFA | 3,500 FCFA |
For school pupils, students and people with reduced mobility, fares were not raised.
Latest known text as of 22 October 2026. If a new order is published, its amounts apply.
Shared ride or private drop: what’s the difference?
A “course” is a shared ride: the taxi picks up other passengers on its way and each pays the fare. A “dépôt” is a private trip: the taxi takes you alone to your destination, for a higher price.
Douala and Yaoundé: the same caps
The order sets national fares: they apply to urban taxis in Douala and Yaoundé alike. Motorbike taxis have no set fare; the price is negotiated.
And between cities?
For intercity transport, a reference price of 16 FCFA per kilometre was announced in February 2024, pending an order from the Prime Minister. For Douala – Yaoundé, see our route guide.
How a Kamergo fare is calculated
A Kamergo fare depends on the distance, the estimated duration and the service you choose (motorbike, car, Comfort). A night or public-holiday rate may be added, and is then shown. The price is calculated when you book and shown before you confirm: that is what you pay, announced stops included; only waiting time at pickup, beyond the free minutes, can be added.
