In Douala people don’t give an address, they give a landmark: “after the Deïdo roundabout”, “opposite the pharmacy”, “at the market entrance”. Kamergo is built around that habit. Next to the pin on the map you write your landmark; the driver reads it before arriving and can message you from the app without seeing your number.

No haggling at the roadside: the price is calculated when you book, from the distance and duration of the trip, and shown before you confirm.

Motorbike or car: which to choose in Douala?

A motorbike gets through where cars are stuck, at rush hour and in neighbourhood streets. It suits one person with little luggage.

A car keeps you out of the rain and sun, takes up to 4 passengers and suitcases, and accepts stops on the way, included in the price shown.

How much is a taxi in Douala?

For regular taxis, the Minister of Trade’s order of 26 February 2024 sets maximum fares: 350 FCFA for a shared ride by day, 400 FCFA at night from 10 pm, 3,000 FCFA for a private drop (“dépôt”) by day and 3,500 FCFA at night. A shared ride picks up other passengers on the way; a dépôt takes you alone.

With Kamergo the price depends on the trip and the service you choose. It is shown before you book; only waiting time at pickup, beyond the free minutes, can be added.

Pay in cash or by Mobile Money

Pay the driver in cash on arrival, or pay by Mobile Money when you book: drivers are only contacted once the payment is confirmed. If the ride does not happen, what you paid comes back to you as credit.

Ride safely, day and night

  • Before their first ride, every driver sends their ID card, licence, a selfie, vehicle registration, insurance and a photo of the vehicle; our team checks them.
  • Their name, photo, car model and plate appear as soon as they accept: check them before getting in.
  • The ride only starts with your safety code, which you give once you are in the right vehicle.
  • Share your trip live with someone you trust, or book for someone else: they get the driver, car and code by SMS.
